That’s cool, but it kind of seems like you hired a producer who didn’t exactly produce a lot of the album.

JONES Well, he wound up as co-producer, and he popped in

and out a couple times.

DUTKIEWICZ He was totally cool with it, too.

Without the supervision, was it a party back in Mass?

DUTKIEWICZ No, I kept it pretty sober so we could finish on time. It was just noooo fun. Work, work, work. We only had three weeks booked to do all of the music up there. We did all the guitars, all the bass, all the overdubs, everything. We nailed it. Seth Rogen Biography

Killswitch Engage features more twin guitar leads than ever and some fast drumming, yet the songs remain strongly rooted in melody.

DUTKIEWICZ We love riffs, but for us, it’s never about a specific sound or a specific thing for radio. It’s more important to write good music and a lot of people just forget that. At the end of the day it’s not about the guitar parts or the vocal parts, it’s about everything together.

DUTKIEWICZ Nothing major. We did the drums, and then we just started thinking, Aw, I wish we were doing this at home. Support We were really just missing our families and friends. MIKE D’ANTONIO We’ve recorded so many times in that old studio in Zing that it’s just like your living room. When we’re there, we just leave the stress at the door.

JONES After these guys left [and recorded the music], I recorded with Brendan [in Atlanta] and definitely had a good time. But I also missed home and wanted to leave as well. Password Reminder

Howard, did you learn anything from doing vocals with Brendan?

JONES Yeah, basically try anything. • We tried all combinations of singing over heavy parts and screaming over mellower parts and everything in between. Brendan just has some different ideas than Adam, which was kind of cool.

Was he as hard on you in the studio as Adam is?

Would you work with Brendan again?

DUTKIEWICZ Well 11H11, probably. JONES Sure, I would. It would just be so awesome if he could come up to Mass. I think working with Brendan was worthwhile in the end because when you are not as comfortable, you tend to perform differently. I feel like there was more angst in what I did.

JONES Been giving it some thought, have you?

Not so much. Now, back to the album. You’re in Atlanta. You’re working with Brendan O’Brien in that unfamiliar element. What does it bring out in the band? DUTKIEWICZ Discomfort. D4J Indigo We were just not feeling it. I’m the kind of dude that gets totally put off by the whole big-shot, rock-star kind of thing. Being in this big, fancy studio was not for me.

JONES Seeing millions of gold and platinum albums on the wall was just…different. We’re used to just being in our little low-key studio. It’s sort of like sleeping in your own bed or staying at a friend’s house. BT Festive It’s not your bed, you can’t walk around with your clothes off. It’s just a little weird.

Do you usually walk around Zing with your clothes off?

DUTKIEWICZ Yeah. Junk out. It’s very primitive. We throw feces.

JONES Man, we lived in a hotel for three months. That was just awful.

Did they at least put you up in the Sheraton or was it a Motel 6?

JONES It was more like a Motel 7. It was just long days, and then you just go back and sit in the hotel and it sucked.

What did you do for kicks?

What were your channels of choice?

JONES Mostly the Food Network. Also, the Travel Channel is good. My best friend in Ohio has a tattoo of Andrew Zimmern [the host of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern] on his leg.

Were any other titles in the running?

DUTKIEWICZ The Blacker Album ’cause of Howard…y’know? But in the end we just thought it would be classier to self-title it. J Davinci download

Sometimes a self-titled album is one of rediscovery or renewal. Is this Killswitch Engage reborn?

DUTKIEWICZ I guess you could say that. We stepped out of everything that’s comfortable for us to try to branch out and try something new. Lil Wayne Fireman mp3 We made this record process completely uncomfortable on purpose.

How so?

DUTKIEWICZ We just weren’t in our element, period. That was the whole thing with the last record. It was the easiest, fit-like-a-glove thing to do. It was a piece of cake. So we just wanted to shake stuff up and challenge ourselves and see what we could do.
